Abstract
The total labor force in South Sumatera Province in February 2017 was 4.2 million people, growing by 190.7 thousand people or up by 4.70 percent compared to February 2016.
- The number of people working in South Sumatera Province in February 2017 reached 4.1 million people increased by 189.0 thousand people or increased by 4.85 percent compared to the conditions in February 2016.
- The Open Unemployment Rate (TPT) in South Sumatera Province in February 2017 reached 3.80 percent, decreasing compared to February 2016 of 3.94 percent or decreased by 0.14 percent. While the number of unemployed open in February 2017 as much as 161,2 thousand people or increase as many as 1.6 thousand people from February 2016 amounted to 159.5 thousand people.
- During the period of February 2016 - February 2017, there were 2 (two) business fields decreasing the absorption of the working population, namely: Agriculture, Plantation, Forestry, Hunting and Fisheries sector and Mining and Quarrying sector. The highest decrease in employment absorption is found in Agriculture, Plantation, Forestry, Hunting and Fisheries sector at 1.94 percent. Meanwhile, 7 (seven) other sectors experienced increased absorption of working population where the highest absorption increase was in the sector of Social Services, Social, and Individual 0.94 percent.
- Based on the number of working hours, the state of February 2017 of 4.1 million people working as many as 2.6 million people or 64.56 percent work over 35 hours per week, while the working population with the number of working hours less than 7 hours per week to reach 88.4 thousand people or 2.17 percent.
The condition of February 2017, working population of educated elementary school to below still dominate the absorption of employment by 45.95 percent. Meanwhile, the high educated population absorbed in the field of work is still relatively low, namely Diploma (DI / D-II / D-III) graduation of 3.07 percent and graduated from University (D-IV / S-1 / S-2 / S- 3) by 7.54 percent.
